FISH REPORT for 3-5-11

This is it folks…the last day.  Can hardly believe it!

Tony took Stacy Nelson’s crew out today and only caught one fish but oh my goodness…what a fun group these girls are!!  Tara Estrada caught a 23 1/2″W fish today!!

Tony, Dub and the Stacy Nelson crew who say "hookin' ain't easy"!! Hmmm...I guess they mean it's the landing that's the hardest part!

Next boat out is Rich, Brad Sawyer and my best friend in the world…Michelle Hollon and friends/family!  These girls caught 6 fish today and they definitely made it count!!  Daini Carlson caught a 29″W while Kris Thorton caught a 37″W–holy cow kids–that just landed her right in the 2nd place biggest fish spot!!  Will it hold?  We’ll have to see!!  Meanwhile, 2009 champion Shari Medley caught two fish–a 22 1/2″H and a 36″W!!  But it was Michelle’s daughter Makaila Hollon…who I’ve watched grow up into the most beautiful woman–just like her mama–catch her way right into the record books!  It wasn’t the 28 1/2″W fish that got her there…but it WAS the 38″W that did it!!!!!!!  SEE PHOTO BELOW!!  OMG!!!!!!  I just couldn’t be more tickled!!  That’s right folks…that just put her in 2nd place big fish!!!!  Kris Thorton, on this same boat, will move to third!!!!  Great day girls!

Next up we have Debbie Dines group going out with the Mike and Mike show of Wallace and Estrada!!  They caught 11 fish in all today!  Myrna Harris caught a 22″H; while Karla Thompson, Sherrie Brooks and Theresa Dines all caught two fish each!! Karla–23″H, 30″H!  Sherrie–29″H, 27″H!  Theresa–31 1/2″W, 30″H!  Debbie Dines was the big winner today with 4 fish in all!! 23″H, 22″H, 23 1/2″H, 24″H!  Congratulations ladies!!!  What a great day!

Last but not least, Sam and Jeff took out last year’s Champion Nikki Johnson and her group of mostly local ladies!!  Their boat also caught 11 fish in all to wrap up this year’s catch!  Malia Steiner caught a 25″H and Rexanne Zimmerman of the Riggins Tackle Shop (stop by for ALL your fishing, hunting and liquor store needs!) caught a 22″H!  Millie Brookshire caught a 33 1/2″W and Angie Herring caught a 31″W!  Maria Stone caught four fish today–23 1/4″H, 35 1/2″W, 31″W, 23 1/2″H!!  But our own local lady Sandy Deveny caught three fish today, with one of them counting BIG! 23 1/2″H, 24 1/2″H and get this folks–a 37 1/2″W which just won her the $500.00 3rd PLACE BIG FISH prize!!  Congratulations Sandy!!!!

Wow…one more day to go and this puppy is in the record books!

2 drift boats and 4 jet boats out today!!  First up we have Jeff Wieber who took the husband and wife team of Marylee and Doug Hale!  Doug was obviously there for moral support only as Marylee caught all the fish anyway!!  She caught 3 for the day–two 23″ fish and a 30″ fish!!  Congrats Marylee!!

Next up we have Roy Akins and his group of three ladies–the Kerry Holscher crew!!  Kerry has been coming to WWB for many, many years now and she is a great gal!!  Thanks for coming back Kerry!  Her friend Janet Frazier caught a 26″ fish while Kerry caught two fish–both 28″!!  See you girls next year!!

Meanwhile, Sammy was having a slow day today with Mariah DeLong’s girls!  Only one fish caught–a new one for Sammy.  Hey…everybody has to have a slow day sometime.  Anyway, Oralia Flores caught herself a nice fish–a 32″W!!  Congrats Oralia!!!

Tony’s girls didn’t do much better today…2 fish for the day.  Lia Kupers caught a 23″H and Cindy Gildroy caught a 35″W fish!

And Mike Wallace…same story…only two fish for the day…WHAT IS GOING ON??  Melanie Higgins and crew come every year and we sure hope we see them next year too for redemption!  Cathy Gifford caught a 33″W and Cathy Cagle caught a 31″H!

Now…what’s really weird is in the same stretch of river that Sam and Mike are in…Rich and Brad Sawyer go up with Kate McGwire’s girls and have a big day with 15 fish in all.  Ladies…we never have an explanation for this…you are either in em’ or you’re not!  By the way, Kate is from MIX106 in BOISE!!  We love to have Kate here…this is her second year and she is a hoot to have with us!!  Kelli Riley caught a 30″W, while Tracy Kasper caught two fish–a 22 1/2″W and a 29 1/2″H!  Karen Pemberton caught two fish as well–a 23″H and a 27 1/2″H!  Kate McGwire did herself proud with two fish today–a 23″H and a 24 1/2″H!!  Megan Bronder caught three fish–22″W, 23 1/2″H, 31 1/2″W!!  But it was Anji Nett who was really going for it by catching 5 fish for the day!! 35″W, 28″W, 35″W, 28 1/2″W, 30″W!!  Congratulations ladies!!!!

LOTS to report today so I’m going to get right to it.

Rich and Mike E. took Kresta Davis-Butts on their return trip to WWB!  These ladies caught only a few fish today but will definitely be back next year to get some more fish!!  Charlotte Wasia caught a 27″H; Darci Moore caught a 29 1/2″H; Kathy Plesner caught a 33″W and Kresta herself caught a 31 1/2″H!!  See you next girls!!  You girls are a great group!

Mike Wallace and Jeff Wieber took Cindi Lou Baker and friends today!!  10 fish in all for these ladies and what a fun group of ladies these are!!!  Kallie Forsberg caught a 26″W; Karen Smith caught two fish today–21 1/2″H, 33″W!  Denise Matthiesen caught two fish–25″W, 33″W!  Cindi Lou caught two fish as well–24″H, 28 1/2″W!  Denice Lyman caught three fish in all today! 31″H, 32″W, 24″H!  Nice job ladies!

Okay…ya’ll probably ought to sit down again.  Got some pretty big news again that will probably shake things up!  Sam and DUB took the Kristie Osborn group out today–9 girls in all–and they went up the river–way up!  They caught 35 fish in all and Sam said they probably had a good 50 on but lost the rest….still sitting?  We have some new leaders so let me get to it!  Lara Raschke caught a 27″W; Amanda Dix is now tied for 3rd Place Biggest fish with her 36″W; Dotti Logsdon caught two fish–31″H, 30″W; Patti Strong caught three fish–35″W, 31″W, 33″H; as well as Tina Watson–she also caught three fish today–28″W, 34″W, 32″W! Tobey Huddleston caught four fish–34 3/4″W, 33 1/2″H, 33″W, 35″W!  Wendy Secl caught 6 fish–33″H, 34″H, 27″W, 35″W, 29″H, 26″H!  Angie Howe is our new 3RD PLACE MOST FISH with 7 fish and check out these sizes: 34″W, 32″W, 33″W, 32″W, 33″W, 32″W, 32″W for a total of 228 inches!!  But remember, this is how many fish you catch first, then the total inches breaks the tie…we’ll be doing that for the biggest fish folks too.  So that means that Kristie Osborn is now our new 2ND PLACE MOST FISH leader with 8 fish–they are a bit smaller than Angie’s, but all that matters is she caught one more!  Her scores: 25″H, 22″H, 28″W, 20″H (KRISTIE NOW HAS THE SMALLEST FISH TOO!), 23″H, 23″H, 27″H, 25″H!  WOW!!!  Congratulations to all you ladies and nicely done!!!!

FISH REPORT for 2-26-11

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!  Baby it’s cold outside!  We woke up this morning to 10 degrees here, with paddy ice at Riggins!  The boys had to scramble to come up with a plan and quick!  We had a conference room full of ladies who came a very long way to fish…not sit by the fire!  So Sammy started up the hill to check out the conditions, with Rich and Mike close behind.  Tony hung back trying to get his engine compartment to thaw out–even after putting the big jet heater on it for the entire overnight period!  (It didn’t even make a dent!)  He finally got that thing to warm a bit and they headed to Whitebird and Hammer Creek.  In the meantime, Sam, Rich and Mike reported Spring Bar wasn’t looking too bad…so we sent them up as far as SB.  Then, after a few more miles, they radioed and said for me to drive up to Spring Bar and send them on up to Carey Creek…we’re going to make this happen!  So eventually, we got everyone settled into their spots with all three upriver boats actually getting all the up to California Creek!  Whew…this ice can really give a person a headache!!!  So here is how they all did today!!

Mike Wallace and Casey Green took the Annette Gilmore/Debbie Longfellow crew today!  The only girl who was able to wrestle one in was Debbie’s sister Nani Morrison, who hails from Oak Harbor (Whidbey Island), Washington, with a 24 1/2″H!!  Thanks ladies for travelling so far!!  Debbie’s other sister Annie, also came from the Oak Harbor area and Annette’s crew hails from the Pocatello/Blackfoot areas!  These girls came from a long way and we sure appreciate their participation!

Our very own ladies who are near and dear to our hearts….JJ HOPKINS and clan went out today with Sam and DUB!  They only caught three fish in this freezing weather but they busted their humps to get these fish in!  Keep in mind, most MEN wouldn’t have worked as hard as these ladies did today to get these fish!  My dear friend, Joyce Pottenger caught a nice 32″H!!  Marsha Mead caught two fish today–a 31″H and a 34″H!  Speaking of which…are you all remembering to buy your Salmon River Chamber of Commerce Derby tickets?  Notice how big these hatchery fish are??  You could WIN BIG!!  Just ask me at the signup table in the morning at checkin!!!!

Downriver at Hammer Creek, we had Tony and Jeff with the Debbie Cullison crew!  These girls had a great day with 5 fish in all!  Debbie herself caught a 31″W!  Renee Hammonds caught two fish–a 29″W and a 32″W!!  My friend Lori Thomasen, who I have been telling for years to get her keister up here–FINALLY got on a boat this year and we’re so glad she did because she caught two fish today–a 30″W and a 35″W!!!  Way to go ladies!!

Jeff Wieber with Lori Thomasen and her 35" beauty-full fish!

Last but not least, we have some special ladies that I’ve personally known for at least a decade!  Rich and Mike E. took Michelle Jarrard and girls out today and what a fun and special time!  Phyllis Foster caught a 26 1/2″W and Debby Sloan caught a 23 1/2″H!  Previous BIG FISH winner Tracey Huey caught two fish today–a 23″H and a 26 1/2″H!  These ladies and I all used to work together back in the Albertson’s corporate office days.  Former trip leader, Dawn Coolbaugh, and myself started our WWB history over 10 years ago together with our very first boat up here.  We went with my father-in-law Romine and we had a wonderful time!!  Over the years, obviously we’ve moved up here and took over this business and the girls have stayed in the valley–but we never lost touch!  This year, Dawn had some serious medical issues that almost prevented her from coming fishing this year.  But you know what they say–you can’t keep a good fisher-gal down!!  Our little Dawnie-girl didn’t disappoint either as she showed us all–ain’t nothin’ gonna stop her as she landed a nice 29 1/2″W fish today!  Keep up the good and hard work Dawnie!!  We know you can overcome anything that gets in front of you!  We love you!!

Brad Sawyer with our friend Dawn Coolbaugh--still showing us how it's done!

CURRENT LEADERS:

FISH REPORT for 2-21-11

Holy toledo people…we’ve got lots to catch up on today!!  So let’s get right to it!

First out, we had Mike Hicks and his beautiful drift boat with the beautiful Correll girls today–Laurie and Jennifer!!  These ladies did well with three fish for the day!  Jennifer caught a 25″W fish while Laurie caught two fish–a 24″W and a 28″H!!

Next, we had Tony and Jeff on board with a mixed group of ladies today!  6 fish overall for this boat and fun had by all!  Destiny Huber caught a 21″H while her friend Michelle Glaze caught a 34″H!!  Julia Harrison caught two fish–a 28″H and a 23″H!  Mary Schmall, first time WWB’r, caught herself two fish as well–a 27 1/2″H and a 23″H!!  Way to go ladies!!

Michelle Glaze, Mary Schmall, Destiny Huber and Julia Harrison with their catch of the day!

Then upriver we go to Rich and Mike E.!  They had boat #1 of the two boat group of Shelley Rambo!  These were all pretty much first-timers and they had a ball today!  They boated 9 fish for the day!  Cyndi Landis caught a 29″H; Deb Joseph caught a 24″H; Alana Hansen caught a 23″H and Robin Hausheer caught a 31″W!  Nikki Clampitt caught two fish today–a 30″H and a 23″H!  Debbie Wagner was the fish-slayer today with three fish–a 32 1/2″W, a 20 1/4″H and a 24″H!  Debbie now has the smallest fish caught so far!!

Over on Mike W. and Brad Sawyer’s boat, we have the Cherie Collins crew!  They boated 12 fish today!  Chelsea Massengale caught a 26″H; Deanna Coy caught a 24″H; Char Widner caught two fish–a 31″H and a 33 1/2″W!  Tammie Astle also caught two fish today–a 33 1/2″H and a 29″W!  Mary Lorcher and Cherie Collins caught three fish each!!  Mary–31 1/2″H, 28 1/2″H and a 33″W!  Cherie–35″W, 22 1/2″H and a 34″W!!  Cherie is now added to the tied third place spot for biggest fish! Congrats Cherie!

THE SUPER-HEROS of Women with Bait! Shelley Rambo and friends!!

Okay folks…are ya sittin’ down in your favorite easy chair??  This is where it gets good!  Sam and DUB took the Shelley Rambo boat #2 today and they had a phenomenal day!  19 fish in all with a couple of position changes!  Local girl (who was sort of celebrating a little bachelorette fun today–by the way, she’s marrying one of our bait boys from yester-year–Jonny Hinton!) Linnaea Kibbler caught a 24″H!!  But everyone else on this boat caught three fish each…well, except for Shelley but we’ll get to her in a minute!  So Mel Carlson caught three–34 3/4″W, 24 1/2″H, 31″W; Karen Crosby caught three–32″W, 28″W, 34″W; Cindy Clancy caught three–33 1/2″W, 32″H, 33″W!  By the way, are you all paying attention to the SIZE of these FISH?  Cuz we’re not done yet…and you best be sittin’ down for this one!  Carole Clements…who by the way, back on February 20th, 2002, caught a 39″W fish that could not be counted as it was NOT a tournament day–it was her “just for fun” day as they’d chosen to go a second day.  Retired River Adventures guide Romine told me that everyone was pretty bummed for her that she couldn’t win a prize for that big fish anyway–just bragging rights.  So today…she caught three fish…a 23″H, a 30″W  …and…are you sitting down yet? A 38 1/2″W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So…I think we now have a new BIG FISH LEADER!!  Congratulations Carole!!!!  And guess what?  THIS ONE COUNTS!! :-)

Carole Clements, Justin Whitten aka DUB and a 38 1/2"W fish!

And finally, on this boat, Mrs. Shelley Rambo…who has been coming for quite a few years on WWB!!  She and her amazing husband donate a prize EVERY YEAR to this tournament–we REALLY APPRECIATE Steve Rambo Jewelers and we want you to shop there too!!  So go and check them out in Boise at 902 Main Street, Downtown!!  Well, she finally caught some fish today.  SHE CAUGHT 6 FISH!!  She’s now our new 2ND PLACE MOST FISH gal!!  But check out the sizes of these fish!  Shelley’s stats: 33″W, 34″W, 33″W, 28″H, 30 1/2″H, 33″W!  Now that is some fine fishing!  Congratulations Girl!!

Shelley Rambo, realizing she just put herself into 2nd place with her 6th fish!

Shelley with Fish #6!! And of course DUB in his Warrior Princess outfit!

FISH REPORT for 2-13-11!

Greetings!!  We had the joy of the Pink Flamingo’s today with Tony and Casey!!  These ladies are so much fun and have been coming to Women With Bait for years now!!  They always come dressed in their “flamingo” gear and we love to see it!  Only 4 fish for this boat today, but definitely a good time had by all!  Terrie Jones caught a 22″H; Kristy Hunt caught a 24″H; Hazel Thompson caught a 30″W fish and Linda McDonald caught a 23″H!  We think that due to some warmer temps, the fish might have been sunbathing rather than looking for the bait! Better luck next year ladies because WWB wouldn’t be the same without you to come back here and catch some more fish!!!

The Pink Flamingos!

Next up we have Mimi Beutter and friends upriver with Rich and Mike E.!  Only 5 fish for these ladies today but again, we’re sure there was a need for suntan lotion as the temps got into the 70′s in the Riggins area!  Renee Miller caught a 30″W fish, and so did Karen Roberts!!!  Jennifer Erickson caught a 27″W and Adri Hicks caught two fish today–a 34″H and a 35″W which puts her into a tie for 2nd Place BIG FISH!! Congrats Adri!!  And thanks to Mimi for always being her smiling self!!!

Sam and DUB took the Sheila Cather group, hailing from Lolo, Montana!  They did two better than Rich’s boat and brought in 7 for the day!  Sheila herself was able to take home a 22″H while Sharle Jones took home a 23″H!  Robin Lee caught two fish–a 32″W and a 21 1/2″H!  But Shari Kappel took home most fish for their boat today with three! 35″W, 27″W, and a 31″H!  And yes, Shari now will be sitting in a 3-way tie for 2nd Place BIG FISH!!  Hmmmmmm….how in the heck are we going to split that necklace up in to three pieces?  Maybe we could arrange custody or something.  We’ll have to see!

Last but not least, the final boat for the day was that of Mike Wallace and Jeff Wieber with the Shaun Mulberry crew!!  What a fun bunch these girls are, travelling all the way up from Idaho Falls!  11 fish in all were caught on this boat!!  Sandy Frickey caught a 31 1/2″H, Shaun Mulberry and Trina Pollman tied with three fish each!  Shaun’s: 33″H, 22″H, 24″H; Trina’s: 31″W, 32″W, 30″W!  But Wendy Regan caught four fish today!! FISH REPORT for 2-12-11!

Hi again everyone!  Wow…just when I think we’re gettin’ comfortable, it just keeps getting better!!! Lots of boats out today with lots of news!  I’ll get right to it!

First off, Norm Klobetanz was at it again with a couple of our local sweeties in a drift boat, Tawnya Folwell and Sonja Adams! Tawnya pulled in two fish today–a 24″H and a 29″H!!  Nice job ladies for your first WWB EVER!!!!  Thanks for coming out!

Then, Mike Hicks took a couple of really neat ladies out in his drift boat, who also brought a fish each in!  By the way, I instantly fell in love with these two ladies!!  Lisa Dockter is actually a doctor!!  So of course, we sang all the favorites “Dr. Dr., give me the news” and on and on and on!!  Meanwhile, Sandy is an author and a character all her own!!  She wrote a book called “Don’t Feed the Dragon!”–a book for parents of tots thru teens.  All of you Mom’s out there better run out and get a copy–this gal is a hoot!!  Lisa caught a 21″H and Sandy hauled in a 30″W!

Guide Mike Hicks showing "the Dockter" how to hold her fish!!

Mike and Sandy showing off her fine catch!

Next up we have the two-boat group of Bonnie McGraw and Theo Lowe!  These ladies have been coming for years now and they both must have had the same numbers on their minds as each boat caught 8 fish each!  We’ll start out with Mike Wallace and Brad Sawyer’s girls!  Bonnie McGraw herself caught a 24 1/2″H; Tracy Horton caught a 29 1/4″H; Shanda McGraw caught a 29″W; Karen Schnake caught a 25″H; and Noel Jensen caught a 22″H! Stacey Cox caught three fish today–a 25″W, a 23 1/2″H and a 33 1/2″W! I love it when everyone on the boat catches a fish!! What a fun day for these girls!

Over on Rich and Mike E.’s boat, almost everyone got a fish here as well! Sara Hanson caught her very first Steelhead ever with a 28″ keeper! Sonya Christiansen caught a 27″W while Anita Christiansen had to try and outdo her with a 30″W fish! A little family rivalry doesn’t hurt anyone!! Theo Lowe caught two fish today–a 23 1/2″H and a 33 1/2″W. Theo’s sister LaJean Humphries caught three fish today–a 22″H, a 24″H and a 35″W!! That big fish puts LaJean into 2ND PLACE BIGGEST FISH! Theo said she and her sister especially had a wonderful time as they had a “double hook-up”–they both had a fish on at the same time!! They got lots of photos that they will be sending to their mom!! She’ll be so proud!

Meanwhile, downriver in the Spring Bar section, guide Tony Bradbury and bait boy Casey Green, have been having a really great year!! They are keeping up their momentum with the Ronda Paffile crew as they boated 12 fish today! All ladies caught a fish, which you know I love!! Young Kasey Koelling caught her first Steelhead EVER with a 32″H fish!! We are very excited to see Kasey out and joining us as she is autistic and Mom wasn’t quite sure what Kasey would think of all this fishing excitement! Well, I guess she got her answer as she’s obviously a natural angler!! Mom LeAnne (who also caught herself a 27″H!) said deckhand Casey was so wonderful with Kasey…I mean c’mon, they are bonded with the same cool name!! What a beautiful day for Kasey and what a priviledge for us to be able to spend it with her and her family!!! Sister Kelly Koelling didn’t do half bad herself with three fish for the day–a 28″W, 27 1/2″W and a 25″H!”

"The Two Kasey's"! Kasey Koelling and Casey Green showing off Kasey's catch of the day!

LeAnne’s sister, Elizabeth Stanton, who came all the way from ATLANTA, GEORGIA, just to fish WWB-caught a 23″W fish while Ronda Paffile caught two fish–a 27″H and a 33″H! Nice job ladies!! But Ronda’s daughter, Sami Paffile was looking for the big prize when she brought in 4 for the day!  She caught a 31″W, a 24″H, a 33″W and a 31″H!!  What a great day!!

Left to Right: Elizabeth Stanton, LeAnne Koelling, Kelly Koelling, Samantha Paffile, Ronda Paffile, Kasey Koelling. Guide Tony Bradbury!!

Well, I hope you all are sitting down!!  I really wasn’t sure we’d see numbers like last year, but folks, I guess it’s always possible!!  What a great day Sam Whitten and Jeff Wieber had with Kelly Martinez and pals!  These girls have been coming for 4 years now from the Glenns Ferry area and have always had fun but never went home with any major prizes…I think their luck is about to change!!  What an amazing day again!!!  25 fish in all for these ladies!!  Jean Bybee caught a 24″H, Ami Packer caught a 23 1/2″H! Paula Riggs caught two fish–a 32″W and a 25″H! Three fish for LeAnn Schrader–32″H, 33″H, 32″W! Four fish EACH for both JJ Martell and Crystal Grigg!  JJ: 32″W, 34″W, 30″W, 33″W; Crystal: 31 1/4″H, 23″H, 22 1/2″H, 30″H!  But seriously…are you sitting down??  Better do it because I think this might just make you a little dizzy!  Trip leader Kelly Martinez caught 10 FISH!!!!  She’s our NEW LEADER FOR MOST FISH!!  Her fish stats for the day: 22″H, 23″H, 31″W, 33″W, 27″H, 28″H, 31″W, 32″W, 22″H, 33 1/4″W (for a total of 282 1/4″ if anyone is counting!).  I really never thought we’d see what we saw last year with Nikki Johnson catching 15…but this year we have 10 already! Holy Smokes Folks! This is just flat gettin’ good!  Can it hold?  You’ll just have to wait and see!

We’ve got some lead changes already, so I’ll get started right away!  Rich and Mike Estrada headed up to Spring Bar today with the second day of fishing for the Wendy Hafer/Sam Logan group.  These ladies always fish two days and split their group to fish their tournament days 3 on the first day and 3 on the second.  Carrie Homburg (NON-tournament day) caught a 23″ keeper and Wendy Hafer (also a NON-tournament day) caught a 24″ keeper!  Sam Logan (TOURNEY DAY!) caught a 30″ Wild fish for the biggest fish on their boat for the day!

Also down at Hammer Creek, Tony and Casey had the Kathy Wilder group!! We’d like to give a big shout out to Kathy…unfortunately, Kathy’s best friend passed away just days before her tournament day so she wasn’t able to join us.  However, her group must have dedicated this day to her and fished their hearts out, catching a total of 10 fish for the boat!!  Lori Hale caught a 29 1/2″ wild fish and Jane Mowry caught a 32″ keeper!  Kris Collins and Deb Jenkins both caught two fish: Kris–28″ W, 34″ H; Deb– 29 1/2″H and a 35 1/2″ H!!  Deb’s 35 1/2″ keeper is now the BIGGEST FISH SO FAR!!  But it looks like Jessi Brannock is going to take the lead for most fish with 4 fish caught today!! Hey…where has everyone been hiding?? Welcome back to WWB! FISH REPORT for 2-4-11!

LOL!!  I know, I know…I’m such a funny gal!  I realize I’M THE ONE who has been hiding lately!!  For that, I do apologize!!  All of you ladies with kids, husbands, jobs, pets, family obligations, bills, etc., etc. know exactly how it goes!!  I know everyone has been waiting for the FISH BLOG to begin and I’ve been simply just trying to catch up so I can finally ‘get ‘er done’!  We’ve all had our share of the “crud/flu/colds” move through our home and family, so of course, that’s one of my excuses–(you girls know what I’m talking about: you can’t get done when you are sick!)!  Another is that I have an 8 year old boy in his first year of basketball–very exciting and VERY BUSY!! And then yesterday, we all were blessed with the opportunity to join that said 8 year old boy on his school field trip to Brundage Mountain where he learned to ski for the very first time!!  Might I just say, he’s a natural!!!!!  But now I sit here at my computer, appreciating all of you ladies who have gently reminded me that I’ve got some real work to do to make sure you folks are getting your very important updates on who is leading in this tournament!!!  I’ve missed you all and here you go!!!!  Thank you all for the emails…it makes me think all this writing is worth it and not too annoying!!

From our family to yours--welcome to Women with Bait and River Adventures! --Rich, Kim and Fischer Friend

Okay, so day 1 was Friday, February 4.  We had three boats scheduled to go out fishing with Rich, Mike and Sam.  On Monday of this week, it was smooth sailing…we were getting all the way up to Mackay Bar and figured we were going to have no problems getting you ladies wherever we wanted to take you to fish.  However, Mother Nature had different ideas.  By Tuesday afternoon, the temperature started to drop and didn’t stop until we were completely frozen almost all the way back to Riggins.  That’s what we get for thinking we could beat Mother Nature!!  So we had to scramble and figure out where where we were going to go–all that matters to these guides is that you ladies catch some fish!!  I’m really serious about that–when they don’t catch fish, I’ve never seen them so down in the dumps before! It’s pretty sad!

Anyway, we heard from a friend and guide over on the Snake River that they were “knocking them dead”, so that gave us some good vibes to maybe send a boat or two or three over ‘yonder!!  The Steelhead and Salmon numbers on the Snake River in Hells Canyon have been steadily building over the past years and it’s always a great trip on the Snake virtually any time you go since the temperatures are pretty agreeable over there–for fish and for fisherman!  Mike Wallace decided to stay above Pittsburg Landing, while Rich decided to head to the confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers.  Mike had some tough luck as the water started to get off-color with the warming temps pushing a little mud into the water of the creeks flowing into the canyon.  His ladies did have at least three fish on, but nothing landed! This was kind of a lucky boat…he and deckhand Brad Sawyer had three different groups of ladies who really didn’t know each other, but ended up becoming fast friends by the end of it!! I have a feeling they’ll be booking again next year since they all had such a fun day! Mike took them to some neat spots in Hell’s Canyon to at least check out the magnificent scenery in between fishing holes!

Meanwhile, Rich took Luanne Ostrow and friends downriver to the confluence to try and get out of the murkier water.  They caught a fish on their first drift! Jamie Coffey-Kelly caught a 28″ wild fish, while Debra Hodges caught a 29″ wild fish!  Stephanie Coffey was the big winner today with two fish–23″ keeper and a 27″ wild!!  Way to go ladies!!

All boats were scheduled to go over to Hell’s Canyon, but Sam’s bunch decided to take a “look” at Hammer Creek on the way, just in case they wanted to fish there.  One of their team leaders who is also a previous WWB Champ–Wendy Hafer, reminded Sam that the day she won WWB (back in ’07), they couldn’t even start fishing until about 10 a.m. due to the ice buildup. She won that day even after a late start!  So, she said “hey, let’s see if we can do it again!”   Even with some ice bergs floating in the Lower Gorge, they went ahead and stayed at Hammer Creek!  I guess luck was on their side because these ladies got into some fish!! Wendy Hafer herself caught a 23″ wild fish, while Sherri House and Deb Charlton (these were their NON-tournament chosen days to fish) both caught two fish each! Sherri: 23 1/2″ hatchery and a 24″ hatchery keeper! Deb: 32″ and 35″ keeper!! Great job ladies and some nice sized fish too!  But Amy Cardenas was the one to beat today as she’s now the new most fish leader AND big fish leader!! She caught three fish, a 24″H, a 29″W and a 34 1/2″ H!!  Her biggest fish is so far the biggest TOURNAMENT fish.   That’s it for day 1!
